i want to start a water fast please help?
i have been doing tons of research for about a month , i plan on doing it for about 4-7 days mainly for weightloss
my version of the water fast would not really be a fast mainly wake up early and eat breakfast and then eat again in 12 hours and eat a meal every 12 hours as to still get energy naturally my body burns 2000 calories and i plan to jump a little bit of jump rope too.
will this help detox my body and also how much weight can be lost by doing this serious only best answer 10 points
Detox is a myth. Both the body and the colon are self cleansing.
“Anyone interested in detoxifying their body might think about paying a little more attention to their body and less attention to the people trying to get their money. The body already has nature’s most effective detoxification system. It’s called the liver. The liver changes the chemical structure of foreign compounds so they can be filtered out of the blood by the kidneys, which then excrete them in the urine. I am left wondering why the alternative practitioners never mention this option to their customers. It’s all-natural and proven effective.”
metabolism and alternate day fasting?
I think my metabolism has been damaged some what by crash dieting in my teens.
I now have a very healthy and very active lifestyle.
I want tips on how to increase my metabolism naturally.
Also, to help lose a few excess pounds (only about 10) I wandered about the benefits of alternate day fasting. For example 2-3 days fasting on juice or water or just soup every week.
is this likely to slow my metabolism down? Even if I ‘mcontinuing my normal exercise programe? Or will it help me lose a few lbs and maintain a healthy metabolism?
I’ve heard one day fasting a week is excellent for the system.
Ive done longer fasts 7-10days before, but with my training programe(Im learning to be a martial arts teacher)it’s too difficult after a few days to keep up with classes.
So my questions:1) How to increase metabolism 2)How about 2-3days fasting on soup/juice a week for weight loss ?
Any sensible advice would be appreciated.
I am an acupuncturist and have to answer this type of question often. In Chinese medicine, generally speaking the Kidney Fire represents an active metabolism. There are qi gong exercises, acupuncture and herbs that regulate the Kidney Fire”.
Chinese medicine is not a big fan of fasts; they are known to damage the Spleen Qi leading to much bigger problems and weight gain down the road. Hope this perspective will help you in maintaining wellness!
Remember, Chinese medicine has been around for thousands of years and uses sustainable theories.
my parents think i’m anorexic?
I’m 17 years old, 5’2”, and I weigh around 98.5 pounds, and am around 12% body fat (I know that because they calculated it for fitness testing in PE). In march of last year I weighed about 117.5. I’ve lost 19 pounds in 10 months, but its completely not on purpose. My eating habits have changed a bit–cutting out junk food like chips, candy, fast food, etc. for the most part (and not to lose weight, just to be healthy and because they really don’t taste that good and make me feel gross), and eating a little bit healthier (more vegetables and fruit, less bread products and fatty/oily things, focusing on getting all the nutrients I need instead of just eating what tastes good). I eat three meals a day with a snack in between lunch and dinner, and sometimes a piece of candy or chocolate after dinner. I eat mostly foods that are healthy, full of good nutrients and such, and make me feel good/satisfied after I eat them. I’m pretty small so I eat small portions or I feel gross, but I always eat when I’m hungry and pretty much always stop when I’m full. Here’s a typical day of eating for me:
Breakfast: Two clementines, a chewy bar, coffee with milk and sugar
Lunch: Hummus and pita, caesar salad
Snack: Apple and peanut butter
Dinner: Chicken curry, rice, roasted potatoes and squash
Dessert: Individual packet of jellybeans (probably around 15-25)
So anyways, recently my mother has been constantly commenting on how I am way too thin, making me weigh myself in front of her, and trying to force me to eat huge amounts of food and gain weight. I am definitely not anorexic, and I see no need to change my eating habits or make myself gain weight. I have always been naturally thin, and if this is how my body wants to be, I don’t think it would be healthy to try and make me put on fat. I started eating healthier, and consequently I lost a bit of weight, at a healthy pace and over a long period of time. How do I get her to understand that I’m just eating healthier as I get older and that I’m NOT anorexic?
Eat 3 bigmacs with 2 large fries and have 2 large cokes to drink right in front of them. They will never think you’re anorexic anymore!
If the drs made a mistake by giving me insulin could I die?
I am set to start Insulin tommorrow. I am more than nervous about the entire thing. I was diagnosd with pre diabetes in July, In august I was told that I moved into type 2, no meds were given was told to work with with diet and exercise and of course lose some weight. I did all that and still my readings are quite high my morning glucose before I drink or eat anything ranges from 7.4 (133.2 for the americans) to 9.7 (174.6) so yes I know they are high, my average is about 10.2 (180)(according to my meter) for the entire day ( I test about 4-6 x a day). Again I know its a bit high.
Anyway, 9/11 they started me on metformin, that drug is from the devil himself. last week they added in Glicazide (diamicron) that drug makes me so sick, all i did was vomit the entire 5 days I took it. So tomrorrow they are putting me on insulin, not sure what kind or anything but I am terrified. What if they made a mistake and my sugars are just naturally high. I am scared that if they give me insulin and it is all a mistake that I will die, from coma or somethign like that.
if they did make a mistake, what WILL happen to me? Will they know it right away? is it true that once you start insulin its a forever thing? How can I teach my 6 year old daughter to help me, teach her to reckognize the symptoms of a low. ( I think a low is my biggest fear, I am not afraid of the needles at all, she taught me how to use them last week and it was a breeze, but there was no insulin in the pen thingy. I also know what a low feels like (well not feels like but I read a lot about it) so I kinda know what to look for but what if it all happens to fast and I can’t save myself?
maybe I am in denial, I probably am but honestly I am scared to death to give myself a shot and than find out its a mistake while my 6 year watches and gets freaked out, but doesn’t know to get help. (she is a special needs child, so i doubt she would even understand or get herself in such a panic that she freezes).
Please tell me it will be ok, and that they wouldn’t do this is they were not sure, and if it is a mistake that i won’t die.
Crap I sound like a big old whining baby huh?? lol sorry about that.
Hello Zipper, Let me see if I can assuage some of your fears. In many cases type II diabetes mellitus can be controlled by diet/exercise (but not all cases), if that alone doesn’t work, the oral drugs you were taking are then prescribed. If for some reason your body cannot tolerate these medications, which is true in your case—–insulin is then used. I am very pleased to see you are proactive in your care by measuring your glucose levels frequently throughout the day; I wish more diabetic patients were as conscientious as you! Monitoring your blood glucose is vitally important. Now about insulin: You will be told precisely how many units you are to take and how often. Your doctor will in all probability prescribe a long acting insulin, Lantus is such an example; and you may also be prescribed a rapid acting insulin to take if your sugar elevates during the period when the long acting insulin should still be working…Humalog is an example of this type of insulin. Now listen carefully please. Quite often it is necessary to make dosage adjustments to your insulin when first beginning treatment, this is common, so don’t freak out. You are absolutely correct in saying that a low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) is by far more dangerous than if it climbs too high; so to prevent any problems I strongly recommend that you ALWAYS have available chewable pure glucose tablets (they are available at any pharmacy and require no prescription) you can carry them with you and should you suddenly begin to feel weak, break out in a sweat, start trembling, feel confused or disoriented, [all signs/symptoms of hypoglycemia, which you can share with your daughter so she'll be aware] put a tablet in your mouth and chew and swallow it. Since these tablets are PURE glucose they begin to act almost instantly and in very, very short order the symptoms of hypoglycemia will vanish. If for some reason you don’t have the tablets with you or at home, orange juice, a chocolate candy or other sweet can be used. However table sugar and the sugar used in candy is sucrose and will take just a bit longer to reverse the effects of the plummeting sugar—this is why glucose is always preferrable, it is the simplest of all sugars and the body can use it immediately.
Furthermore, while there are some normal variations in normal blood sugars among individuals but let me assure you without reservation or a shadow of doubt that a blood glucose reading of 180 is NOT within the tolerance level for normal variation!!!!!!
Your physician or endocrinologist who is managing your case will adjust your dosages, type of insulin you take and answer any and all questions you may have. There is really nothing to fear and in a very short time you will acclimate to taking your insulin routinely and it will become a normal part of your day, much the same as eating or sleeping. Just keep monitoring your glucose levels as you do now, and everything will be fine.
I sincerely hope this helps to reduce any fears you may have.
How Is This For Keeping In Shape & Gaining Muscle?
I am not trying to lose weight. I want to gain muscle, and stay in shape.
Height: 5 ft 7in
Weight: 95 pounds (my family is naturally skinny, I am trying to eat more).
Drive to gym with parent, do bike for 15 minutes in gym, burn about 180 calories, do stairmill for 10 minutes, burn 120 calories. (Yes, I put in my correct body weight, and I still burn that many calories in that time) Work out different upper body muscles using different machines & weights for 30-40 minutes. Run back to house (around 3.0 miles away with up and downhills) in 20-25 minutes (could do faster, but am tired from other stuff). I’ll then jump rope later for 10 minutes after lunch, and 10-15 minutes after dinner at moderate intensity.
I am mostly sedinetery for the other parts of the day.
How is that for gaining muscle?
That is a good plan, all except for the cardio. In order to gain muscle, you need a high intensity workout routine. My best advice is a 3 day split. Back and Biceps on Monday. Legs on Wednesday. And Chest and Triceps on Thursday. On Tuesday and Friday do core (abdominal and lower back). Stick with your cardio (running, stair master, jump rope) at least 3 times a week. With the food part, you should divide your diet into a 6 meal a day, high in protein and carbs. You will need lots of sleep, at least 9 hours a night. If you work, then you will be happy with your results.
